2008 Whitcraft Winery Pinot Noir Aubaine Vineyard
Small production Pinot Noir that delivers. Plenty of power, finesse and delicious fruit in ths wine. Patience will be rewarded to those who can resist the urge to drink it all now and cellar it for a few years. A favorite wine of mine personally.

WOW!!!! No joke, the nose on this is amazing. At first look it is a bit redder in color than the 07. Reminds me of the 04 in that it is lighter (doesn't look it until you hold it to a light) in color and alcohol, a mere (ha) 14.8%. It has this huge candied Cola nose, the berries are black and blue, and there is earth and spice. Not mushroomy forest floor earth, pure earth, like after it rains when you're in the country. And the spice I would say is white pepper. I am very pleased with this vintage. I've always loved the Aubaine, but feel it's sometimes slightly too big or clumsy some years. This year a balance was achieved by Mother Nature and I did a pretty good job of not messing it up. The wine from this vineyard will always be big, Cote De Nuit big, but some years can be more balanced than others. The mouth on this wine has bigger tannins than most Pinot as always, but the finish jumped out at me big time, softer than other years. Add some breath to this wine in your mouth and the berries hit the mid palette, and the acidity and tannins stimulate the outer back reaches of your tongue. The front palette of this wine shows the leathery tannins. 220 cases made, the biggest vintage from us!
